You’ve probably heard that you can eat too much of a good thing, so can you overeat healthy food.
What about eating too much healthy food? This is not as uncommon as you might think, and it deserves more attention than it gets. Let’s explore why this happens and how to avoid overeating healthy foods in the future.
Can You Overeat Healthy Food?
Overeating is not confined to unhealthy food. Overeating healthy foods can be dangerous. There are three ways in which overeating healthy food can be detrimental to your health.
- Overeating healthy food can cause digestive problems that will cause you discomfort and stomach pain, especially if the healthy food eaten is high in fiber.
- Overeating a healthy diet that lacks sufficient amounts of protein and other nutrients may result in loss of appetite and difficulty in keeping down solid foods.
- The overconsumption of low calorie, high fibre foods may lead to constipation which could put an excessive amount of pressure on the colon and other organs in the body, leading to cramps, bloating, and even vomiting.
Healthy Eating Tips For You
Eating healthy is not an easy task. The more you read about it, the more complicated it seems to be. It’s full of so many rules and restrictions that sometimes you just want to give up altogether.
But despite what some people might think, there are ways to enjoy delicious food and maintain a healthy lifestyle at the same time. And in this post, I am going to share with you my top 10 tips for how to do exactly that!
1. Incremental Change
If you feel like you are making too many changes at once, then this tip is for you! Changing everything all at once is rarely sustainable. To be honest, it’s just not realistic to expect yourself to stick with any type of diet or lifestyle change if it feels overwhelming.
So instead of trying to make drastic changes all at once, try making small incremental changes. This way you won’t feel so overwhelmed, and you will have a better chance of success!

2. Make Sure Your Portions Are Reasonable
This is especially true when it comes to eating healthy fats such as avocado, nuts or oils. A lot of people think that healthier foods have no calories, but that is simply not true. For example, 1 tablespoon (14g) of organic extra virgin olive oil has 119 calories.
I’m trying to say that you need to be careful with how much fat you are adding to your diet. 3 tablespoons (42g) of avocado can have 234 calories! Although this is still a healthy food, it is still a good idea to keep an eye on your portions.
3. Find Low-Calorie Alternatives For Your Favorite Junk Foods
This is such a simple yet effective trick that you can use! If there’s one thing we all struggle with when trying to make healthier eating choices, it’s the fact that we tend to gravitate toward foods we really enjoy and crave, even if they are unhealthy. But you don’t have to cut these types of foods out of your life completely in order to improve your health and waistline!
Instead, try finding healthier alternatives for them. For example, instead of chips, use naan bread or naan chips as your vehicle for guacamole or hummus. You can even eat them with healthy dips like Lean Bean.
4. Use Canned Foods To Your Advantage
I think one of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to eating healthier is that you have to cook all of your meals from scratch and that in order to do that, you need a lot of time and cooking skills. Although this is true for some people, it’s not the case for everyone!
One thing I like to do when trying to eat healthier is to use canned foods in my recipes. For example, black beans, tomatoes and tuna just to name a few. Not only is it simple, but it’s also very convenient!
5. Lean Meats And Poultry Are Your Friends
When I finally was able to let go of my fear of fat many years ago, I learned that you don’t necessarily have to cut all types of meat out of your diet in order to lose weight.
In fact, lean meats are one of the best sources of protein! And that’s exactly why I recommend them to all my clients who are trying to lose or maintain their weight.
6. When Sweets Are Your Only Vice, Go For Dark Chocolate
If you want a sweet snack but don’t want to make yourself feel bad about it, go for dark chocolate! Dark chocolate is good quality chocolate that has a very high cocoa content. Not only does this type of chocolate taste delicious, but the higher cocoa content also means more health benefits.
7. Make Sure The Ingredients In Your Food Are Real
If you are trying to eat healthily but don’t have time or energy to make all of your meals from scratch, I think this is a simple tip. When you are at the grocery store looking for pre-packaged convenience foods or frozen dinners, pay attention to the ingredients list on each of them. If they have lots of preservatives and additives that you cannot pronounce, then avoid buying those at all costs.
8. No More Processed Snacks
Another simple yet effective tip is to stop eating any snacks that are pre-packaged or processed. This means no potato chips, crackers, candy bars, etc. And yes, this includes low-fat snacks as well! These types of foods are usually high in sugar and unhealthy fats, making them a diet disaster.
9. Get Creative With Your Cooking
I know there are people out there who don’t have a lot of time on their hands to cook complicated meals with many ingredients. But I want you to know that it’s completely fine as long as you start getting creative with your cooking!
In my experience, this is one of the best ways to eat healthy without feeling like you are on a diet. This way, you will enjoy your food and also get all the health benefits from it!
10. The More You Know About What You Are Eating, The Better It Is
This is another simple and practical tip that I think everyone should follow when trying to eat healthily. Simply put, if you know exactly what you are putting in your mouth, then the less likely it is for you to make unhealthy choices or eat something you shouldn’t be eating.
Of course, if you are very busy and don’t have time to read the ingredient lists on every food item before buying it, then I recommend sticking with simple foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats. These are good options at all times because they are natural and do not contain any preservatives or toxins.
The Bottom Line
This is it for my simple yet effective tips on how to eat healthy without feeling like you are on a diet! Remember, these are all easy ways to eat healthy that can be implemented in your everyday life almost immediately. Best of luck!
