What is wrong with me? Can’t I stop eating?
I know I’m not alone in this. I’ve felt that way too! The first thing I want to say is you are NOT a failure, no matter what anyone tells you. There’s nothing wrong with you, and there is hope for your situation.

So why can’t I stop eating? To figure out the answer, we should look at some of the causes:
You don’t have enough physical activity:
If you’re not active, then overeating will happen because your body isn’t burning those calories off through exercise like it needs to be to store them as fat, leading to many physical disorders.
You may also be experiencing low blood sugar levels:
When people experience these, their hunger hormones get all messed up, and instead of satisfying their hunger, they just make it worse. I would suggest eating small snacks like almonds to keep your energy and blood sugar levels up!
You may be depressed:
I know that sounds crazy, but it’s true. Depression can lead to overeating in an attempt for comfort, and the more you do this, the stronger the habit becomes.

What to do if I want to lose weight but I can’t stop eating?
If you feel like your overeating has become out of control, I would recommend that you seek advice and guidance from a professional nutritionist or dietician. I don’t want to tell you what I’m about to say, but there is some option for someone who really wants to lose weight and can’t stop eating:
- Try drinking water instead of soda or coffee for a few days
- Put your fork down between each bite and chew slowly
- Eat more vegetables than meat, eggs, cheese, etc
- Keep healthy snacks in the house like apples and celery sticks
- Stop eating when you’re full – don’t eat until you feel sick or bloated
- Get enough sleep each night to keep your metabolism up throughout the day.
How can you modify your eating habits?
We all know that weight loss can be a difficult goal to achieve, and it is even more difficult when you are not sure how to modify your eating habits. Here are some tips for modifying the eating habits that will help lead you towards success!
Don’t skip meals
Skipping meals might seem like an easy way to cut back on calories, but in fact, it can make us hungrier and lead us to overeat later. It also means we’re missing out on the nutrients found in whole foods. Ensure you eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day – with healthy portions of each meal!
Pause before eating
Take a few minutes before starting your meal so that you have time to think about why you’re eating. Ask yourself if you’re hungry or not, and then consider whether the food will be satisfying before taking a bite – this may help slow down how much we eat!
Banish distractions
When we’re distracted while eating, it is easy to overeat without realizing it. Turn off the TV or put away your phone when you sit down for a meal so that you can focus on what’s in front of you.

Chew more bites
How many times have you swallowed your food before realizing it? How much of the meal do we really taste when we’re eating too quickly? Eating more slowly can help with weight loss. Not only will this make us feel full faster, but chewing our food also releases hormones that keep us satisfied.
Keep track
How many calories are you eating each day? How much water do you drink in a day? How many hours of sleep did you get last night? Keeping track of the little things can help us realize where we need to make changes.
Break the TV and food habit
Watching TV and eating at the same time is a habit that’s hard to break, but it can lead to overeating. Instead of watching your favorite show while you eat, make sure you’re not distracted by food – leave the kitchen!
Address stress
Finding time to address stress can be difficult, but it is important that we make a conscious effort to do so. Stress and being anxious about our weight can lead us to eat more! Make sure you find ways of coping with the difficulties in your life that are not food-related.
Choose wholesome foods
Limit the amount of refined carbohydrates, sugar, and salt in your diet to help you lose weight. These are empty calories that will leave us feeling hungry soon after eating them! Instead, you can choose balanced food with proper nutrition.

Drinking water with meals can also lead to a decrease in hunger and an increase in weight loss.
Drink more water
Drinking water can help you cut down on your calorie intake. When we’re feeling hungry, a lot of times it’s because our stomach is really thirsty from not drinking enough water!
Find support
When we feel alone or unsupported in our weight loss journey, it can be difficult to stick to a healthy eating plan. Find some support from your friends or family by joining an online group, attending meetings for weight loss-related organizations, and checking out local events in your area.
